Ideological Jihad July 31, 2009

Another crucial and impressive new book distributed by Castle Publishing…
Ideological Jihad springs from the desire of Christian author Vickie Janson to better understand the ideas and beliefs of her Muslim friends and neighbours.
Over the course of seven years Vickie and her husband took every opportunity to learn more about Islam and discuss beliefs with Muslims in an open and honest way.
Ideological Jihad explores the impact of Islam on western societies, with particular reference to Australia, where Vickie lives.
The book is presented as an open letter to Waleed Aly, author of the influential book People Like Us: How arrogance is dividing Islam and the West. But it is much more than that – it is important reading for anybody interested in the effects of a culture clash between Islam and a western society with Christian foundations – whether that society be Australia, New Zealand or any other western nation.
Vickie presents her arguments and findings with sincere honesty and clarity – her message made all the more powerful by virtue of the fact that she has bypassed prejudice through engaging with real people in real situations.
Intelligent, important, insightful and accessible.
Ideological Jihad retails for NZ$20, but is available now for the special pre-release price of NZ$18. Contact us for more info or to order a copy.

Two Lives, One Dream – a self-publishing success story March 2, 2009

Late last year Castle worked on a superb book project called Two Lives, One Dream. It’s a really good book, and the author has been blown-away by just how much success it’s had. It’s a great example of a ’self-publisher’ and Castle working together to achieve wonderful results.
Originally designed as a way for Nancy McBride to tell her grandchildren about her late husband and the life they led together in Papua New Guinea, Two Lives, One Dream has become much more than that and is now undergoing its second printing. Nancy’s been inundated with emails and phone-calls from people who have appreciated the book. Read more about her story in our interview.
Nancy and her supporters were cautious about their project, making sure they didn’t over-commit themselves, and making use of Castle’s publishing expertise so that they didn’t risk going it alone.
Contact us if you would like to order a copy of Nancy’s book (NZ$22.95), or if you would like to discuss your book project.

It gives me great pleasure to announce the release of some great new books distributed by Castle…
New Zealand Without God? by George Bryant is an insightful and unflinching examination of what New Zealand would lose if Christianity disappeared from the culture. It is written as a challenge to all New Zealanders – both Christian and non-Christian – and gives practical suggestions for negotiating New Zealand’s future.
George is a prolific author, uniquely qualified to write this book. Look out for an author interview with him to be posted on the blog in the next few days.
ISBN 978-0-473-13952-0. Only NZ$27.95 (recommended retail price). For enquiries and orders contact us, or contact one of these great bookshops to obtain a copy.
36 Questions by Rawiri Love and Geoff Vause is a brand new marriage preparation resource designed to help couples engage with the big issues. The book comes in two versions – ‘For Him’ and ‘For Her’ – intended to be used together. The books ask 36 Questions and give space for the reader to think about and write their response, sparking discussion and providing a solid groundwork for marriage.
An essential and useful resource for Christians and non-Christians.

Happy Easter March 20, 2008

I was reading an entry in the classic daily devotional ‘My Utmost for His Highest’ by Oswald Chambers the other day and came across this excellent Easter quote…
“The bedrock of our Christian faith is the unmerited, fathomless marvel of the love of God exhibited on the Cross of Calvary, a love we never can and never shall merit. Paul says this is the reason we are more than conquerors in all these things, super-victors, with a joy we would not have but for the very things which look as if they are going to overwhelm us.”
On the Easter theme, we have two brilliant books that examine the death and resurrection of Jesus:
Why Did Jesus Die? by Dick Tripp was published by Castle Publishing last year. World-renowned writer, J.I. Packer said about this book, “Dick Tripp combs the Scriptures to find and focus every reference to history’s most momentous event. Does a more thorough coverage of the biblical data exist anywhere? I doubt it.” The book offers fascinating insights into the death of Jesus. The strongest impression I got from the book was the fact that the death of Jesus is the central moment of the Bible. Everything in the Old Testament leads up to that event, and everything following the death and resurrection is a result of it. I highly recommend this book – it’ll open your eyes up to the full scope of the Easter story.
Another excellent Easter title is The Art of Easter. This provides another way of looking at the truths of the death and resurrection. The Art of Easter is a beautifully presented coffee table book featuring contemporary New Zealand Christian art, based on the traditional Stations of the Cross, insightfully and creatively interpreted.
The impact of these two books can flow on beyond just Easter weekend. Both are available in New Zealand from your local Christian bookshop. Why Did Jesus Die? is just $26.95 and The Art of Easter just $24.95. Or order copies direct from Castle by contacting us.
Have a wonderful Easter!

How and why did you come to write Two Lives, One Dream?
