Castle’s managing director, John Massam, was awarded a Queen’s Service Medal (QSM) in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours. The honour was given in recognition of services to the community.

For many years, John has worked (more or less behind the scenes) on all sorts of initiatives that had positive outcomes for the community. Of particular note is his work in the area of ‘Christian camping’ – being involved with facilities such as Willow Park, Peter Snell Youth Village and Lakes Ranch – places that have been utilised and visited by countless numbers of New Zealanders for many years.

John has also always had a keen interest in the media. He has been involved with the Challenge Weekly newspaper for 40 years, 30 as its publisher. In 1999 he co-founded Castle Publishing so that people with compassion, passion and drive could positively impact society through book publishing.

New Zealand is a better place for his contributions and the award is richly deserved. Congratulations, John!
