Saturday 24 July was the launch of Anne Perera’s book Thank You for Being My Father, which was produced by Castle Publishing. The event was held at St Ignatius Church in St Heliers, Auckland. It was an amazing gathering – I’ve never been to one like it before. Anne injected plenty of Sri Lankan culture into the event, and there were all kinds of people among the guests.

It’s great to see a product we have worked on engaging with people in this way.

Below is a picture from the event. Left to right: Dr Conrad Perera (Anne’s husband), Anne, Jeff Tebbutt (who designed the cover), Allyson Gofton (food personality and MC for the event), and yours truly (publishing manager for Castle).

At Castle we help a lot of people realise their dreams by helping them self-publish. Anne Perera has had it on her heart to publish a tribute to her late step-father for just over 25 years. Now her book, Thank You for Being My Father, is on the press and looking great.

Thank You for Being My Father tells the story of Anne’s life growing up in Sri Lanka (then Ceylon). Living as the pampered only child of her widowed mother, Anne is shocked and dismayed to discover that her mother has suddenly remarried while Anne is away staying with her cousins during the school holidays. The young Anne then sets about making it clear that she will never accept her new step-father.

But as the years go by, this new man in her family slowly earns her respect, trust and love by steadfastly taking care of Anne’s mother, by supporting the family and encouraging Anne in her studies.

In Thank You for Being My Father, Anne attributes her own success (as a food/nutrition expert and writer) in large part to the role that her step-father played in her life.

Thank You for Being My Father is a fascinating story and includes over 300 photographs. Visit www.anneperera.co.nz.

The book is available now for pre-order. Just NZ$29.95. Contact us for more info or to order a copy.
